About Us

Ngaio Climate Crew

The Ngaio Climate Crew is a community‑led initiative working to make Ngaio and Crofton Downs into Aotearoa’s first carbon‑neutral suburbs. Our neighbourhood is uniquely placed to lead this mahi — compact, well‑connected by public transport, rich in local shops and services, and home to an active, engaged community that cares deeply about sustainability and the natural environment.

For many years, residents have been actively running projects that support low‑carbon living: the Ngaio Repair Café, the Vegetable Co‑op, the monthly recycling station, and extensive volunteer work restoring our local bush and waterways. The Climate Crew grew out of this shared energy and a desire to bring people and projects together, making it easier for everyone to take meaningful climate action.

In 2025, Wellington City Council supported our vision through a Sustainability Fund grant, which was renewed for 2026. This funding allows us to employ a part‑time Project Manager and Community Suupporter to coordinate activity, connect the groups, and offer a small budget to make things happen. It also enables dedicated communications support to share stories, celebrate progress, and keep our community inspired.

Our focus is collective action — the belief that when we work together, even small steps add up to real impact. We help households, groups, and local businesses reduce emissions, adopt low‑carbon habits, and participate in community‑based initiatives that strengthen resilience and connection.

Our Goals for 2026.
