We are aiming to become climate-neutral suburbs.
We have purposely not spent too much time focusing on the details of that while we are getting started – but we know we will at some stage!
We are serious about this goal, and it’s going to take a serious approach to collecting our data so that we know 1) how we are doing and 2) where to prioritise our efforts to reduce the most emissions.
This Data Plan is a living document – that we keep updated and share with anyone in our community to add comments and questions to.
Data group
There is a Data Action group who support the data collecting for Ngaio Climate Crew. We meet every now and then for coffee and check in about progress we are making on collecting and tracking data. We are looking for more local data nerds to join us!
We also connect with the City Council’s climate team to get their support in collecting what data they have available through their processes.
Approaches
- We can use the Wellington City Council emissions data and find out what our emissions probably are from that. These won’t give us our local specifics, and are not responsive to help us know how we are going.
- We are finding out what we can about Ngaio and Crofton Down’s true consumption data from various different sources. We will also be looking at qualitative data through the discussions/ observations of the sub-groups. This will help to give us a fuller picture of change we are supporting.

What do we already know?
This table here sets out some raw data of what we currently know about our emissions.
We will continue to keep it updated with the NCC data group being responsible for that.
