We have lots of climate friendly kai activity happening in our community: the weekly fruit and vege collective, community meals, the seed bank at Cummings Park Library, and learning with Everybody Eats and The Villa Cafe. We also have a group of locals who are interested in growing kai locally. We are starting to plan for a potential community composting scheme, hosting seasonal working bees at the Tarikākā community orchard, and things like group trips to a farm pick up sheep poo for our gardens! Email us if you want to join the Ngaio Community Gardens Club WhatsApp group and be part of the action.

Our Activities & Projects
- Community Cookbook — We’re creating a Ngaio Climate Crew plant-based cookbook, filled with favourite recipes from locals. Whether it’s a treasured family dish or your own creative twist, we’d love to include it.
- Recipe Sharing — Beyond the cookbook, we’ll be sharing plant-based recipes online and at events to help inspire everyday climate-friendly meals.
- Plant-based Dinners
NCC Plant Based Dinner – Winter Climate Korero
In July, we teamed up with Villa Café for a special plant-based dinner showcasing fresh, seasonal ingredients and inspiring ideas for sustainable eating. The evening was a wonderful mix of great food and community connection.
Why It Matters
Shifting toward plant-based eating reduces greenhouse gas emissions, supports local producers, and encourages healthier lifestyles. Even small changes in our diets can have a big impact over time.
Come along to our next meal and bring a dish, or simply an idea to share!
